Rating: what was the WAP site?

by Bena Roberts

Medio’s Marketing Director Miika Mantyvaara invited me to the moco news mixer in the evening so after I presented on Mobile Search at the Smartphone Show I headed over to meet party animals Roger Davies at the W Hotel with Monty Munford from Player X.

We then headed to the moco news mixer…
…on the way there we bumped into Tim Green from Mobile Entertainment and David from Hotxt…

where I finally met other Medio members I haven’t met personally – the new COO (whose name has unfortunately gone out of my head due to alcohol consumption and jet lag) and Rowena Wong – who gave me a demo of the new CBS mobile sports WAP site which is powered by Medio.

I am upset as I think I wrote down the URL incorrectly as I tried to surf it now and I got a CBS site but not the one I saw in the demo. But as soon as I get it again I will surf it again. But the news is:

Medio is the advertising search provider for the WAP site of CBS.

I just have to say that the moco mixer was a bit of a disappointment as the alcohol wasn’t free. I met four or five people at the door all moaning about it and saying what was the point of a mixer – better no food and only drinks. I didn’t pay for any of my drinks but I only stayed for 45 minutes anyway.

Back to the point..
Winning an account like CBS is great news for Medio especially for its mobile advertising services where it has been playing catch-up. But getting an account like CBS proves that Medio is a force to be reckoned with in the advertising stakes. But more importantly it is vital to remember that this is for text ads and sponsored links and not banners.

Despite what everyone else says Medio believes that search advertising and text links are the way forward. Personally, I think Medio has to say this because it is playing catch-up… I have no doubt that banners will one day be on the agenda and the rate in which Medio is expanding the question is when banners enter the search footprint.
