Mens magazine Maxim goes mobile with WDA and Mobile Streams

avril_maximMaxim magazine announced a deal to distribute mobile content today. The WirelessDeveloper Agency (WDA) is a mobile content broker, and the middle man in this deal. It has chosen mobile content company Mobile Streams to deliver the saucy Maxim content to mobile users in the UK, Latin America and APAC.

Mobile Streams has both on-portal and off-portal distribution networks, both of which will be carrying the Maxim content. Apart from the Maxim thing, this is part of a larger overall deal between Mobile Streams and WDA. Mobile Streams will be getting more content from WDA, including brands and musical artists… like David Hasselhoff.

From the release:

Simon Buckingham, CEO of Mobile Streams: “The Maxim content is a perfect fit for our glamor offering and we are pleased to have teamed up with WDA in order to make this content available to fans around the world and look forward to future collaboration.”

Brennan Hayden, Vice President of WDA: “Our goal is to maximize the reach of the Maxim brand in mobile on a global basis.  With Mobile Streams we have the benefit of a complete on and off-portal distribution package through a leading and trusted provider.”

What we think?

While more mens mags are getting mobile, I can’t say this release filled me with hope. Looking at the off-portal distributors for Mobile Streams reveals such gems as www.mobilebikinis.com and www.prontube.mobi. It also mentions some of the content it’s carrying… ringtones, ringback tones, wallpapers and video.  I’m not really sure Maxim has chosen the best distribution partners here.
