News over the weekend was circulating that Microsoft has re-approached Yahoo, but this time it was not to take it over; yet. Sources quoted to the New York Times said that Microsoft has in mind “a partnership or joint venture for search-related advertising”

In a statement issued from Microsoft on Sunday it said it was “considering and has raised with Yahoo an alternative that would involve a transaction with Yahoo but not an acquisition of all of Yahoo.”

The sources supposedly involved in the confidential discussions said “talks center on a partnership or joint venture for search-related advertising to compete against Google.” More over at Wired.

Rating: This is going to be the summer news, are they, is she, how about the bridesmaid, who is going to be the best man?. Some even may call this cynical as Yahoo have been chatting to Google for sometime about a joint partnership supposedly in a similar vein to the hinted tie between Microsoft and Yahoo. Some people who wont complain are the Yahoo shareholders, they have seen their shares pop up in value.
