Microsoft releases new search services for mobile
Rating: hmmmm
Well this says its new but I could this as the third press release related to Microsoft and voice technology and Tell Me; the location aware technology bit might be a bit new though.
So what is the story?
Microsoft has announced Live Search 411. This is a free access directory services number. It will provide information on anything from weather to news and airline info. There is also a link to WAP traffic maps to the phone.
From the press release
“Microsoft is building on several years of innovation in imagery and 3-D visualization, adding some of the most significant innovations to driving directions technology in the last several years and expanding how our current 185 million customers can experience the improvements to the core of Live Search to include access from a wider variety of clients, platforms and devices,” said Satya Nadella, corporate vice president of the Search & Advertising Platform Group at Microsoft. “Collectively, these improvements build on the work we did in core relevance and differentiated vertical experiences, and are an important milestone in our efforts in delivering a comprehensive, innovative search offering that includes mobile, mapping, Web and local services for customers to find what they need, when they need it, on any device.”
What we think?
So I was wrong even the map thing isn’t new. I don’t think Microsoft receive enough publicity for its new sexed-up map service. Basically – this is a vomit of press release first released on the 26th of September.
Live Search will offer faster accurate driving directions (yawn).
Live Search offers 3D. …………3D? PEACE, man PEACE.
But the best bit comes at the very end of the press release on the new Live Search 411 it says
* Mobile providers may charge a fee for placing calls.
Give me a break, please.
