Downloading the Microsoft Tag mobile barcode readeron the N95 had been a little bit hairy for GoMo News in the first instance. Then Microsoft’s Gavin Jancke created a special reader for GoMo News called the Bena Reader made for my N95 device.
The issue was that the first time I downloaded the reader it didn’t find my Internet provider. So, I sent Microsoft my IMEI number and then sent me back a special URL made for my device.
This is what happened – step by step.
After going straight to the link sent to me by Microsoft I hit this page with was empty apart from a Blue N95 Download link and the title Bena Reader.
I clicked on the link and received a security message that this was in BETA and it could ruin my device. Slightly nervous, but committed I continued.
The reader download as usual. I opened it and went straight to GoMo News Microsoft Tag and took a picture. Again it scanned the image so fast I didn’t have time to capture it. But it captured it immediately and a pop-up jumped up saying choose connection. I chose T-Mobile Internet and then.
The application collapsed and the phone re-started.
My stomach turned again as when the phone re-started it looked like the image above with an empty screen and no network or anything. I waited in what seemed like an eternity but was only really about 90 seconds and then the phone blinked and everything got back to normal.
I checked the application immediately and it was still there and I clicked it. This time without any issues everything worked perfectly.
What we think?
OK – I got a little nervous there but it all worked out well in the end. I am now going to test the send and sharing settings and SMS, MMS and email the barcode to see if everything is working seamlessly.
I am over the moon it is working and it is very very fast. It does look nifty and I look forward to comparing it to the Scanlife product.
Thank-you to Gavin Jancke and Microsoft for helping me and taking the time to create this special download for my device it is really really appreciated. I made a short video using all the pictures and it will be published in the video section shortly.

Microsoft Tag reader worked very well on my HTC tyTn II mobile. Only issue was that when the application was downloaded through the mobile, it detected the wrong model number. Then I had to go to Microsoft website and select my mobile model number and then installed the application on my mobile.
Great application.
