Mobile messaging provider Miyowa today announced that its MoveMessenger IM client has been pre-loaded with Sony Ericsson. Miyowa claims the W595S handset from SE is just the first of several major handset deals that it will be announcing soon. It is also announcing the launch of the Preloaded Instant Messaging Software Client Programme. This is an initiative that exists for one purpose only: to get Miyowa IM clients embedded with every major mobile brand.
Miyowa already claims that 25 mobile operators around the world are using MoveMessenger. These operators are currently porting the service to their customers for use. According to Miyowa, these partners would rather that the client come pre-loaded on handsets at the point of manufacture.
From the release:
Stéphane Hareng, VP Sales Operations & Business Development: “Thanks to this programme, Miyowa aims to increase acquisition of the service and targets 50% penetration, as measured today with some of our customers”
What we think?
This is a beautifully cocky press release. It’s hard to disagree with the central point of the release though, which is that having a good IM client embedded on handsets on release would really drive the global use of the service. Well, that’s the secondary point of the release really. The central point is “everyone should use Miyowa”, but I know of a lot of services who would disagree with that. Miyowa claims that it currently supports 1500 types of handset, including Android, iPhone, J2ME, Symbian and Windows Mobile.
