My first German boyfriend (never again) was called Gekko (nickname as he used to die is hair green and it was short and wired). Anyway – I love the name Golden Gekko! Now I know the founder and also have checked out the website it really does suit what this mobile advertising company does.
So with red wine in one hand and mobile phone in the other I did the rounds at the MMF networking party. I had arranged with PR agent Laura Lynne to find and meet Magnus Jern CEO and Founder of Golden Gekko. So, my first question was about three different things rolled into one.
I asked – what do you do, what is the value proposition and doesn’t everyone do that in one go.
In fact, I think I was quite tough on Magnus at the start of the chat – which is actually very important as anyone in mobile marketing and advertising has a tendency to waffle.
Magnus said, we are different in that we are extremely interactive. That is our focus – we have adverts that you want to watch over and over again and you interact with. Creative marketing in media and advertising is our goal and everything we do we do with the user in mind.
Again, I stressed – is that anything new?
This time Magnus pulled out his phone and showed me an 3D example of an advert for a brand that I immediately thought – innovative and different. That one was still under wraps – so I asked him to show me a live ad.
He did and he put on a Lynx advert – which I loved. Basically the adverts were like social concepts were boys who like a girl could use an advert to help them get a date in a bar.
Huh?
Well. The phone advert then acts like a radar signal or ticker and you can point it to women you find attractive and the one it ticks the fastest for is the one that wins. I saw about four different ads so I might have them confused as one was an Italian (I think) one as well.

What we think?
So, I have to admit – I have edited this report as I did give Magnus a tougher time (it was the red wine) but him and Marketing Director Jimmy Nordbeck did a great job of showing me that they did actually know how to be extremely creative with mobile. At one point I was looking at two viral ads on different phones at the same time. Loved it.
