Rating: Market in UK grew by 157% in 1 year

The latest quarterly (Q1 2012) report from BuzzCity which tracks performance across its own global mobile advertising network has come in with impressive figures for market expansion. The UK showed strong growth during Q1 2012 with 23 per cent but over the year it grew by a commendable 157 per cent. Significantly, the number of smartphones active on the BuzzCity network has also grown. Smartphones now account for more than 32 per cent of phones that are served ads  across the BuzzCity mobile ad network. Out of these, handsets from Apple, BlackBerry, Samsung and HTC continued to grow. RIM’s BlackBerry continues to make a strong showing despite its bad Press. The growth of Samsung has also been reflected in the growth of Android platform (11 per cent) over the BuzzCity network.

In Q1 2012, over 45 billion ad banners were delivered across the BuzzCity network consisting of more than 10,000 publisher sites which reach an average of over 300 million unique users per month.

Based on its data, BuzzCity is predicting that there will undoubtedly be an increase in m-commerce activities.

At least 25 per cent of smartphone users in the UK, United States, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, Thailand and South Africa are very active users and generate over a billion ads per quarter.

“With this backdrop of increased smartphone usage merchants, will want to take advantage of the plethora of mobile payments services being offered by various providers,” observed BuzzCity CEO, Dr KF Lai.

“But they will need to be aware that the user experience is fragmented over three screens – PC, TV, mobile devices,” he added.

“Delivering performance and a unified user experience across this range of media will be a challenge for many. It will come down to all parties in the mobile ecosystem – developers, marketers and retailers – looking at the whole customer journey to determine where best to target their mobile efforts,” Dr Lai argued.
