A quick roundup of Mobile Barcode stories that you might have missed from around the web.

•    Le Craic has a piece on the Kaywa QR Code Reader. Once installed this application can decipher mobile barcodes that can contain, wallpapers and ringtones as well as URL’s, texts, phone numbers etc.

All you do is fire up the app, take a snap of the barcode and Kaywa’s QR Code Reader does the rest. You can download the app to your phone here.

•    The folks over at Social Innovation Camp have come up with a bright idea.  They want to “Create a site for storing user generated information to be stored against a product, identified by its barcode number. People would be able to access the info by entering/scanning the barcode number. The kind of information that would be stored against the product would be things like reviews, manufacturing conditions, news stories about the product/manufacturer, farm subsidies paid to the manufacturer etc. All entered in wiki form by end users.”  Check out their web site for more information.

•    The Pondering Primate, a blog written by Scott P.Schaffer, CEO of Visionary Innovations Inc reports on a story from the Washington Post. The article says that “The coolest ad technologies aren’t the ones that cost the most–they’re the ones that engage users.” They go on to talk about one QR (Quick Response 2-D Barcode) campaign developed for the clothing industry by Phillip Warbasse of Warbasse Design. Warbasse’s idea “puts the codes on in-store apparel that allows shoppers to purchase sizes not in stock–right on their phones. The codes also offer customers a same-day in-store coupon, and other codes in the campaign help upsell the customer with a discount on a second item in the store if they buy it the same day.”
