Vantrix has announced it has been appointed to the dotMobi Advisory Group Steering Committee. Vantrix is a mobile content optimisation company based out of Montreal. It’s aim is to be able to take multimedia from any source, and optimise it for delivery to any network.
The creation of Vantrix was a result of Japanese mobile giant NTT DOCOMO wanting to sell mobile content more easily. Mobile company Voice Age set up Vantrix to look into it. It claims that 80% of all wallpaper and ringtone sales in the US go through it’s systems. But, in keeping with consumer demand, Vantrix is now looking more into converged services for mobile video and TV across mobile, IPTV and on-line Internet.
The dotMobi Advisory Group was set up to provide advice and insight for the mobile web publishing community.
From the release:
“Vantrix brings extensive industry experience and thought leadership to the dotMobi Advisory Group Steering Committee and we are pleased that they will be involved in our latest initiatives already in progress,” said Michael J. O’Farrell, Chair of the dotMobi Advisory Group. “As an innovator in multimedia content solutions, Vantrix CMO and representation on the committee, Patrick Lopez, will be a valuable addition to our global leadership team. We look forward to Patrick’s perspectives and insights as we work on delivering mobile web publishing best practices, recommendations, market-wide educational initiatives and fostering cooperation among mobile players that will impact not only our members, but the mobile Internet industry at-large.”
“So much of the success of mobile web publishing depends on how effectively multimedia content is processed, optimized and delivered,” commented Patrick Lopez, CMO of Vantrix. “As we look ahead to helping network operators further develop models based on true three-screen convergence, Vantrix looks forward to bringing its perspective in multimedia processing and streaming to the MAG Steering Committee as we discuss and shape the mobile Internet of the future.”
What we think?
Perhaps I’m being overly-cynical, but when I interviewed Patrick Lopez at MWC, he made it clear that what Vantrix really wanted was widespread recognition for it’s accomplishments. I guess joining high-profile advisory boards is one of way getting your name known! That aside, Vantrix has actually been a grass-roots player in mobile content since the very early stages. I don’t doubt that it will have a lot of valuable experience to pass on to the advisory group.
