Flycell is a New York based content company that specialises in entertainment for both mobile and on-line internet. It maintains its own mobile content portal in nine countries, with a focus on ringtones and wallpapers – the question is how will this kind of content compete with applications?
Argentina is the most recent addition to the list of countries served by the Flycell mobile content portal. While ringtones and wallpapers are still the most popular items on the sites, in a real sign of the times the “games” section is now called “applications“. You can download the apps and content over the major operators in the country, Personal, Claro and Movistar.
What we think?
Flycell sold more content in 2009 than ever before – and this Argentinian launch can’t have been cheap. While the service does pay some service to applications, it’s mostly games that are available. In countries like Argentina, with around 50 million mobile subscribers and very few cutting-edge smartphones, this kind of content is still a big seller. After all, as Flycell says, mobile operators in Argentina only recently provided 3G access to the whole country – which makes Argentina one of the top-tier markets in the entire Latin American region.
