If you think you’re a pretty hot mobile gamer, now you’ve got the chance to prove it. Android gaming blog DroidGamers has launched a tournament that will pitch the 40 greatest Android gamers against one another – with the winner bagging a new Android amongst other goodies.
What’s the story?
DroidGamers is a blog dedicated to the noble are of gaming on your Android. It’s a middle ground between gamers and Android gamers, to share, review and comment on new games. The husband and wife team behind the blog have decided to launch this tournament to reward skill in gaming.
How does it work?
The tournament starts at 10am PST next Friday, and will last for 5 days. To enter, you just have to visit the tournament page and find out what game you’ll be playing next. After the 5 days are over, the 40 gamers who have accrued the best overall scores will be pitted against one another in a 24 hour tournament – at the end of which one gamer will be announced the Best Android Gamer of AGC 1, and will win the Grand Prize.
What we think?
It seems that this is the first tournament of its kind on any mobile platform – and DroidGamers is planning for it to be a regular occurance. There will be multiple AGCs in one year, with a huge “finale” event to top them all off (no details on that yet unfortunately).
This is a fantastic example of how people naturally form communities. No one provided a special social network for this tournament to occur. There’s no custom app or integrated campaign. It’s just a group of like-minded gamers who have banded together through the most social medium in existence to share their love of their pass time.
