Skyhook Wireless today announced deals with several German Android applications. Skyhook provides positioning based on GPS, cell tower triangulation and Wi-Fi Positioning.
Skyhook claims that its Android SDK gives developers better positioning results than the Android location platform. It provides access to over 80 million Wi-Fi access points and cell tower locations, GPS data and patented algorithms.
What kind of companies are using Skyhook?
AndNav2 is an Android navigation app that provides turn-by-turn directions, text-2-speech voice-guidance and route tracking.
City Slikkers is a location-based game in which all gameplay is tied to real-world, urban locations.
PlaceLnk is an app that allows users to link a website to a physical location.
What we think?
Nice work, Skyhook. It’s only been days since Android Marketplace was launched in the Netherlands, and already it has three partnership announcements. I don’t haveĀ figures for numbers of Android users in Germany, but it’s probably not so big that this will drive Skyhook to new heights. Multiplayer location-based games have never really taken off either, so it’s hard to get excited about that part of the announcement. Over all, it’s good news. The Marketplace is doing what it’s meant to – giving companies a common area to bring products to, pushing innovation.
