Rating: mobile podcasting will be the “must have” on mobile in 2007 – you heard it here first

From the press release:
Internet broadcasting pioneer in producing and syndicating online audio and video, today announced that its VoiceAmerica Networks are now available to listeners via cellular phones and mobile networked devices. The service is provided through an agreement with UpSnap, Inc. and provides high-quality live streaming audio feeds from VoiceAmerica Networks. To access the service listeners can send a text message indicating the desired network with the station indicator “va” for VoiceAmerica or “vab” VoiceAmerica Business or “vah” for VoiceAmerica Health and Wellness, or “7wn” for the 7th Wave Network to 27627.
Nathaniel Bradley, Executive Vice President of Business Development, stated, “This is a service that we wanted to bring to our listeners making it easier and more convenient to tune into our VoiceAmerica programming. We continue to remain focused on strengthening our leadership position in the Internet talk radio space by providing unmatched services to both our hosts and listeners of VoiceAmerica Networks.”

What we think:
Audio content is made for mobile. Listening is a killer service on the mobile phone and now companies are using this to create new business models. Audio podcasting via the phone (usually 3MB or 3 minutes long) is a reality in the US. It is now coming to Europe and at 3GSM two mobile operators will announce path-breaking new offers in the space. UpSnap the provider of this service is a key player in mobile podcasting in the US. But other companies such as Melodeo and Kimia are starting an EU offensive already.

Mobile podcasting and its relationship with Mobile Search is a feature in the next Mobile Search Analyst magaine.

GoMo news already has a partnership with UpSnap and readers can listen to our podcasts for free by dialing “gomo” to 27627.
