Mobile search still isn’t on the popular radar screen

Rating: Sunday tech piece entirely neglects the mobile internet

Getting the mobile internet into everyone’s consciousness obviously still has a long way to go. Under catch-all phrase of  ‘websites search engine optimisation’, there was an article over the last weekend which virtually entirely ignored the mobile/cellular world.

And there I was hoping to learn something. But no such luck.

In the story, a struggling young courier in need of extra money starts up a web site aimed at pet owners. The Sunday Telegraph  piece has two ‘industry experts’ offering their advice : – Tim Kimber from Microsoft  and Philip Flaxton from the IT Forum Foundation.

At least Flaxton appears aware of the mobile phone’s potential and suggest an O2 XDA, Apple iPhone or RIM Blackberry (no mention of Nokia, Samsung or Sony Ericsson) as a means of managing customer enquiries.

So absolutely no advice then on how to get your web site onto the mobile internet and into mobile search engines, then.

I thought about writing a letter to the editor from angry of Ashford. However, I reckon GoMoNews readers should contact the writer, Guy Clapperton and ask him to put the mobile web in front of his esteemed readers.
