Consumer demand for mobile shopping applications has been steadily rising – and the supply has been rising to meet them. Here’s the round-up of the mobile shopping services that have launched today: Caloricious for grocery shopping, Half.com for back to school, and Neiman Marcus launches a mobile site.
Caloricious provides on-the-spot food info
If you’re torn between one brand of cereal and another, this iPhone app is a searchable, mobile encyclopedia dedicated to foodstuffs. It claims to have over 30,000 different food and drink items in its database – all of which are cross-linked to explanations of the health risks or benefits associated with their ingredients. It has information about different buzzwords that appear on foodstuffs like “gluten”, “allergens” and more – and it attaches alerts to foodstuffs that have particularly high amounts of bad stuff in them.

Comparison shopping app is aimed at Back to School specials
Half.com is a media ecommerce company owned by eBay – and it has just launched the Half.com iPhone app, geared for Back-to-School season. The app allows users to scan barcodes on items to find price comparisons for the best deals on that item. It claims to have 80 million active listings from more than 700,000 sellers – and will even let you order and pay for the item over the app.
Fashion house Neiman Marcus launches mobile shopping site
In a deal with mobile-enabler Usablenet, fashion retailer Neiman Marcus has launched a mobile version of its on-line shopping site. The entire catalog of the store will be available for sale and order on the site.
