ROK Entertainment Group provides a fairly wide range of products. It has some applications there, some technologies it implements for operators, and a bundle of news and entertainment services. So far the biggest success has been its Mobile TV service. Today it has announced that Blackberry users can now access mobile TV through ROK.
ROK TV provides a few different TV services for mobile users. There’s a live option, which plays a pre-set TV channel. There’s also an on-demand service. Up until now, ROK TV was only available for Symbian, Java and Windows mobile owners. And for operators, ROK has it’s own billing system ready to go.
From the release:
“This is great news for ROK and represents huge potential for the continued deployment of ROK TV,” said Jonathan Kendrick, Chairman and CEO of ROK, “as BlackBerry users tend to be tech-savvy and hungry for information and entertainment on their mobiles. To add BlackBerry smartphones to our list of compatible handsets for ROK TV is a fantastic development and one which we are very excited to exploit.”
What we think?
There was a derth of mobile TV stories for a while there, but now we’ve been getting loads in. To be honest, the best TV service I’ve seen this year has been on a cheap mobile my Dad bought in Lidl. It had a little aerial on top, and it automatically picked up and played any terrestrial TV in the area. Most mobile TV services I’ve seen so far have been hampered by terrible data speeds. The same speeds that are being loudly complained about from various sources recently.
