Mobile Web Europe: Russell Buckley GM AdMob

Posted by Bena Roberts on Sep 23, 2008 16:50

So I haven’t heard Russell Buckley speak on AdMob for a very long time. In fact, I haven’t had an interview with AdMob for such as long time – I really felt like I heard something new today and got the most of presentation.

Russell started with an overview of AdMob in the market:

3.6 billion page views a month

UK page views 200 million /month

AdMob provides mobile advertising solutions via CPC and CPM.

AdMob has partnerships with 5000 mobile site and our pitch is – “if you put AdMob on your mobile site we will make you money from banners or text ads”

Then the presentation
After a few videos from Honda and the first ever TV campaign in the world (I think he said US 1964 – but I could be wrong) he wanted to focus on the “after the click”.

Infact, I am now kicking myself as Russell showed a great demo of TapTap (which anyone who reads GoMo News will know that I am obsessed with).  I think that AdMob has huge potential in the mobile space and shouldn’t be an ad based classified or ad index but a feature rich multimedia offer integrating mobile search.  But that is my idea.

I asked a question at the end of the panel about sponsored links and search hinting at the above ideas of TapTap (which considering that advertising partnership with Medio – could really be realised). But Russell said that at this particular moment in time classified were the drive as were banner ads and mobile text links.

So, back to the presentation.  I am not going to do a word for word – but the highlights.  Well I suppose the highlights did include TapTap – I am not sure if it was clear that it was an AdMob brand but it was a great tool to highlight the potential of AdMob and also new analytics and metrics services.

CPC still the most used on AdMob but CPC is getting higher and higher. Average CPM for a social networking site is USD 10.  But we do have premium packages at the USD 25 rate as well.
