Widgets are everywhere. The articles below are from Nokia and T-Mobile and also Orange. But I just had the most excellent demo of the all new Eircom Widget store at the Oracle stand. I was delighted to realise that the widget supplier for Oracle was Feed Henry a Waterford based business like GoMo News!
I wasn´t allowed to take video but what I saw was great. I took some pictures and will do a write up later – but seamless web to mobile widgets will take over the world.
Nokia and T-Mobile
Nokia and T-Mobile today announced plans to promote together their respective offering for widgets, applications and other content to provide customers with easy access to a vast range of Internet services. The customer can browse and download widgets from both the T-Mobile widget gallery and Nokia’s Ovi Store using T-Mobile’s web’n'walk widget platform. The integrated marketplace will be available during the second half 2009 on mass market Nokia Series 40 platform based phones.
“T-Mobile and Nokia share a joint vision of offering an unparalleled mobile Internet experience to its customers. The co-existence of our widget gallery with Nokia’s Ovi Store ensures customers have access to an extensive range of interesting and relevant Internet services that they can customize according to their personal preferences, said Rainer Deutschmann, Senior Vice President, Mobile Internet at T-Mobile International.
“Nokia Series 40 devices offer a great platform to deliver the Ovi Store experience and once the Ovi Store is available, you’ll be able to enjoy the most relevant content from the people and places that matter to you,” said Urpo Karjalainen, Senior Vice President, Operator Channels, at Nokia. “We are excited to be partnering with T-Mobile on the most compelling mobile Internet experience for mass market yet.”
Orange new widget experience
Orange today announces new and easy ways for customers to get more from their mobile, widening access to mobile content via simple widget services and exciting multimedia applications.
Orange’s brand new widgets
Orange is launching a new range of mobile “widgets”, giving customers instant access to useful information via their Orange homescreens. It is bringing a selection of simple, connected mobile widgets, such as weather updates and news alerts to its entire Signature customer base, as part of Orange’s new mobile multimedia strategy to help customers do more with their phone.
“Orange wants all of its customers to benefit from access to compelling content, not just the current few with sophisticated and multi-functional phones,” said Yves Maitre, SVP Devices, Orange. “With our new ‘out of the box’ widget experience, customers can simply turn on their phone and choose from a great selection of services via their Homescreen. By simplifying and widening access to these services, we are driving usage by helping more customers find new and useful things to do with their mobiles.”
