Mobility World Congress: Richard Saggers on purchasing a stake in Amobee
Rating: if you don’t ask!
By Bena Roberts
Richard Saggers finishes his presentation at the Hong Kong Mobility World Congress and there is a call for questions – Bena Roberts GoMo News blogger raises her hand.
Bena Roberts asks: Richard, tell me about purchasing a stake in Amobee. Why just a minority stake in Amobee. What did you want to get out of that and why not just buy the whole company?
Richard Saggers dashingly avoids the real question but graciously responds: Vodafone is interested in cross operation of services. We want to grow the advertising pie rather than take a slice of it. Amobee adds to existing relationships with Yahoo for mobile advertising specifically in the UK and with Google. Vodafone was adamant that it didn’t want an off the shelf solution with Google but a specific tailor made solution. Which is what we have achieved.
Bena notes: It was very quick, but Richard did say that Vodafone did purchase a stake in Amobee first (before Telefonica - even though the annoucement was made at the same time). Ahh, don’t you love competition.
