Rating: This is how the Mobisoc roadmap now looks

Coo. The power of the Press. Or should that be the Blog? Anyway, Mobisoc - which wants to be the new Sun Microsystems of the mobile world – has responded to my criticisms of the product.

You can read my original story on Mobisoc’s launch here. This is what Mobisoc’s Manish Malik has to say in the company’s defence.

TD: No list of supported phones on WAP site

MM: An oversight on our part that we missed out on activating that link. The supported phones list can currently be seen at wap.mobisoc.com and www.mobisoc.com/phones

TD: Support for systems beyond just Java-enabled phones

MM: I completely agree with you that unless we can demonstrate our ability to run the same application code on multiple platforms, our vision of ‘write once, run anywhere’ would remain just a statement. Accordingly, I wanted to share some of our roadmap with you.

What we introduced this month were five applications with same code running on Java and Blackberry phones. In coming months, we will release around eight to ten additional applications  running on Java, Blackberry, Symbian and Windows Mobile. Our future roadmap also includes support for BREW, iPhone, and Android, and work is underway on the same.

Afterward that we will introduce a Mitr SDK to the global developer community so they can leverage all the benefits of Mitr. We are currently working with a few third-party developers who are developing applications on Mitr platform and we plan to open that up for bigger developer community next year.

We also have a program where we share some of the pre-release applications with interested parties to get their inputs and feedback.

TD: Well that all sounds far more impressive and I’ll look forward to testing some of these apps out in the future.
