More details on Say and play emerge
Rating: Great little voice reognition app
I’ve been following up on the really useful ‘Say and Play’ feature which I discovered was inside the recently launched Nokia 5320 XpressMusic handset. Details are very thin on the ground but I’ve published below what Nokia has managed to provide so far.The most important point is that Nokia has confirmed that contrary to what I first thought, Say and Play isn’t dowloadable for existing handsets. Nokia describes ‘Say and Play’ as a “feature that allows consumers to merely say the name of a favourite artist or song to automatically play it. With a dedicated key [on the 5320] to launch the feature, press and hold the button; say the name; and it starts playing the track.
The ‘Say and Play’ feature supports English plus the language that UI language that is supported on the individual user’s phone. However, it can recognise an artist or song name in any language but users need to say the name of the song or artist with either an English pronunciation or with UI language pronunciation.
If any artists write unique titles or use slang terms in song titles, the ‘Say and Play’ feature will recognise the song based on stored meta data. If no meta data exists for a particular song, the application creates one based on the file name.”
So there you have it. When demonstrated to me it worked very well. I can’t wait to try it out for myself.
