More mobile advertising and gaming, as Unilever teams with EA Mobile

pot-noodleDirectly after yesterdays Nissan announcement EA Mobile and Unilever are teaming up to push both mobile advertising and mobile gaming. EA has provided Unilever with a selection of mobile games that it can give away for free with Pot Noodles. Hmmmm… I actually want some Pot Noodles now.

How does it work?

Promotional Pot Noodles will have codes with them. If you enter three of these codes on the potnoodle.com site, or via SMS to a shortcode, EA Mobile will send you a free game for your mobile.

Unilever has announced that 20 million promotional Pots will be released. So if all of those are redeemed, EA Mobile will be giving away almost 7 million units.

What we think?

This could be a good idea – as long as it works flawlessly. It’s so important that anyone who gets one of these free games has a completely smooth and hassle free experience. Let’s imagine that someone who has never played a mobile game before decides to cash in on an epic, three-Pot-Noodle lunch. If their experience is painful, they’ll probably never go back to mobile gaming. If it’s smooth and delightful (like Pot Noodle*) there’s a good chance they’ll become repeat customers. Unilever and Pot Noodle have created a powerful campaign, and if it works well it will be a boost to mobile gaming. But if they screw up, they could do a lot of damage.

* – no, I’m not being paid by Pot Noodle.
