Most sex cheats caught out by texts

Rating: And lawyers are the main beneficiaries

A dating web site for married people – IllicitEncounters.com – has surveyed its members. Of those who have been caught being unfaithful, the majority (65 per cent) said that an incriminating text message or mobile phone call played the major part in their undoing.

“The electronic age has been one long field -day for lawyers,” explained Vanessa Lloyd Platt, founder of Lloyd Platt & Co. “There has been a massive rise in the number of affairs ‘outed’ by text messaging.”

She warned, ” If a husband or wife leaves their phone lying around, they can get caught out very quickly.” By contrast, it is a criminal offence to break into someone’s email account, so looking through a person’s texts and call log is a far better route to discovery.

IllicitEncounters’ Sara Hartley argues, “Our members don’t want to ‘rock the boat’ – many are pursuing an affair as a way of supporting their marriage, not destroying it.” What a lame excuse. That’s on par with, “It wasn’t me” when it blatantly was.

Here’s another shocking statistic. The illicit affairs web site claims to have over 390,000 members in the UK alone. However, less than 10 per cent of the site’s membership have been caught during their time on IllicitEncounters.

GoMo News isn’t sure it really should be encouraging philanderers but here’s one piece of advice. Have you ever thought about password protecting you mobile phone?

It, um, stops people making expensive calls on a contract phone if it gets lost or stolen. Stick with that as your excuse for doing it.
