Californian company Mozes (www.mozes.com) has announced that all of Universal Motown Records Group’s 60+ artists will communicate with their fans via the mobile phone. Artists include Akon, Blue October, Hinder, Godsmack and Mya. Mozes completed a successful beta with Universal Motown and has just gone commercial.
Why Universal Motown Records? Mozes CEO Dorrian Porter told gomonews, “We already have relationships with over 70 [record] labels, the big difference here is that all their artists will communicate via mobile with their fans through us. The artists might choose to communicate daily, weekly or monthly, through mass mailings or individual responses.”
The plan is to build a community for fans by encouraging them to keep in touch and interact.
Gomonews suggested that if artists don’t get regular replies from the artists themselves, it won’t be sustained. Mr Porter argued, “If an old lady writes to the British Prime Minister every week, she wouldn’t expect a reply, nor would you.” Hmmm.
He added, “Yes, this stuff is going on online, but fans want to know about things as soon as they happen and there’s lots of stuff you can only get on mobile.
For instance, exclusive wallpapers. One group is offering ten, you have to send an SMS to get it and one of the ten if very hard to get indeed, so lots of people want it because it’s exclusive.”
MRG will use Mozes to manage programmes and promotions including Hinder’s Door to Dorm tour this Spring. Hinder will have a live contest at every gig where fans can text for a chance to win a backstage pass at the show.
Everyone that interacts at the forthcoming Hinder show gets a free mobile phone wallpaper and the chance to join Hinder’s fan list on Mozes. Fans who opt-in to Hinder’s list will be able to text the band on an ongoing basis and receive exclusive mobile updates.
Fans can also visit Hinder’s mobile card at Mozes.com and download special offers from the band and communicate with other fans.
