MTag to expand its mobile barcode service across Europe – and what’s this MEEPASS business?

MTag has announced that it will launch it’s European roll-out at the Mobile World Congress. Its 2d barcode service is already the standard in France and Poland, but MTag plans to push hard into Spain, Germany, Italy and the UK. It’s also being quite coy about an upcoming service called MEEPASS.
The release also states that MTag plans to unveil a “revolutionary” new product called MEEPASS. There’s precious little detail for the new service, but MTag claims it will effect M-Payment, M-Ticketing and M-Couponing.

What we think?

Considering that MTag are the bone fide standard in two European countries, I would be inclined to treat their upcoming European push with some respect. I’m also looking forward to seeing what MEEPASS is about. Mobile barcodes are on the verge of mass acceptance in Europe, especially in transportation. I look forward to seeing what MTag think is “revolutionary” in that space.
