Rating: this service is going to get even better

As a huge music fan, the moment Sony Ericsson sent me a full loaded with mobile services Walkman device the music recommendation service, was the first one I tried.

Since then (about seven months) Gracenote’s music recognition services have helped me win many a pub quiz and look like a music guru among colleagues and friends.

In a recent visit to the pub in Germany during a music quiz out of ten songs the recommendation engine from Gracenote got nine out of then right – so basically, I am a fan.

But now Gracenote has teamed up with Ikivo.

Ikivo who?

Ikivo has an application framework called Enrich. This service allows operators to instantly turn the music recommendation service into a revenue winning opportunity. By coupling these products together, users will be able to customise the songs they ask for via the recommendation engine, buy them, save them or create music libraries around them. This creates a stronger mobile user experience.

From the press release
“The partnership between Ikivo and Gracenote will give mobile music users an unprecedented wealth of information and an addictive easy to use interface to handle all their music and latest information on their favorite artists” says Magnus Zetterberg, vice president business development at Ikivo. “The combination of Ikivo’s Enrich application framework which is entirely based on open standards and Gracenote’s unique wealth and breadth of products and services makes the combination the premier choice for mobile operators and device manufactures.”

What we think?
It sounds great. I probably would buy more of the tracks that I find with the music service if the abilty to purchase was faster or one click. I only wonder now how existing users will benefit if the service can be upgraded OTA or if a new Java download is needed or if it will only be available in new mobile devices.
