MWC hacks are suckers for gadgets – official

Rating: Journalists go crazy over olloclip 3-in-1 lens

Here at GoMobile News,  at MWC 2013 we’ve noticed that some hacks [journalists] place undue editorial emphasis on gadgets which they themselves personally find absolutely brilliant. We trotted along to the pre-show media gathering known as ShowStoppers run by Steve J Leon and saw some pretty impressive products. But one of them stood head and shoulders above the rest and that was the olloclip 3-in-One lens for Apple iPhones.

Not being ardent photographers ourselves, we were puzzled as to why any iPhone 5 owner would feel it necessary to fit an alternative lens to his or her smartphone.

Until we saw the demo, of course. Out of the three modes the ‘macro’ version was extremely impressive.

It’s a bit like attaching a microscope to your iPhone. Then, there are fish eye and wide angle modes to the alloclip but in our estimation the ‘macro’ setting wins eyes down.

Still puzzled by the adoration, we wandered across to the alloclip stand and were pleasantly surprised to discover that our old mucker Steve Muttram is in charge of business development for  the olloclip.

Steve really is one of the best kept secrets of the UK’s mobile scene but somebody has obviously lured him out to California.

GoMobile News remembers Steve from his dim and distant past when he was a key figure behind Portable Add-ons – a distributor which blazed a trail for the mobile sector.

Steve’s obviously not lost his touch because the alloclip has attracted major media coverage even before MWC 2013.

One two of  things are going to happen. Either we’re going to be spot on with our future predictions of success. Or not.
