MWC: Presentation from 3 UK and bebo followed by lively panel discussion
I had a brilliant panel session today where the panellists and the audience were completely engaged.
I have a lot of it written down but in short (my take)
1. Bebo is about to be sold
2. I asked the question are you threatened by Google and no one dared to answer it
3. I can’t remember the name of the man but I think he is from Paid Content and he asked “what about Yahoo! oneConnect (readers I have an insider tip on this that I am writing up in a blog which I will publish next week). Again everyone answered cagily and Jed from Facebook said “as long as they know what they are doing with our API”.
4. At this point a representative from Yahoo! (I have his card) stood up and said, “we do know exactly what we are doing with your API’s and we are looking after them”.
5. OMG. Even Ofcom got involved and upped the level of the interrogation with an excellent question on who needs who – operators or social networks.
6. The 3G Dating company asked everyone for a date and a start up jumped in and asked how to get on the operator mobile deck (the killer question no doubt).
7. I made sure there were no fist fights but at one point Facebook and bebo looked like best friends.
8. I asked the question – who has used a social network (50% of people said yes)
9. I asked who has used a mobile social network about 30% of the floor answered yes
10. I asked who had a bebo account – now one put there hand up
11. I asked who had a MySpace account and about 5 people raised their hand
12. I asked who had a Facebook account and about 25% of the floor raised their hand.
13. At the end of the show I asked the question. How many people surfed on to a mobile social network during this presentation? 7 people raised their hand. I made sure I thanked them for the confidence boost.
All in all we had 1.5 hours of fantastic debate and discussion and I honestly really enjoyed myself – the room was packed with at least 200 people and basically – it rocked!
