MySpace seeks mobile partners for Europe
Rating: quick, look attractive
According to Digital Bulletin, the US-based social networking site MySpace is looking at mobile tie-ups to promote the service in Europe. The item reported that vice president of mobile, Europe Jean-Paul Sanchez said that MySpace is negotiating distribution agreements that will probably include marketing deals. Mr Sanchez also apparently said that the company is focusing on mobile, video and international expansion. MySpace will not license its brand to mobile operators, but it does intend to allow partners to offer MySpace functionality. In the US, the company has is in partnership with Cingular Wireless and Helio to offer mobile services.
Pitch, which gomo blogged about yesterday, likes to describe itself as the MySpace killer in the mobile arena. It could well have its bluff called. On the other hand, lots of brands don’t travel well – aol and Wal-Mart failed to flourish in Europe. Pitch needs to crack on as fast as it can go to get established ahead of the invasion because there won’t be any shortage of parties that want to smooch with MySpace and make it mobile.
