MyStrands Social Music Player brings community and music discovery to mobile

At 3GSM, BKI Media’s Bena Roberts met six new music search and recommendation companies. MyStrands was one of them. Bena met with Gabriel Aldamiz-echevarria VP of MyStrands. He was one of the most focused down to earth people at 3GSM and despite it being late in the day on Tuesday he gave me an excellent demo.. similar to the one below.

MyStrands is hot, not because it focuses on the long-tail of content; but because of its recommendation and “find similar” features. Increasingly, it’s no longer about the abundance of content on a mobile device but about having the latest most unique tracks. Music and Mobile are bringing a new lifestyle factor to the market that BKI Media likes to call “mefirst”.

The “mefirst” early adopter market is the driver of mobile. Not only do they own and have the latest device they actively use it to “show-off” or carve their own personal niche via mobile.

The fact that the community aspect is added and users can see and connect with people that purchased similar will surely have a viral effect. Unlike internet dating the fear or threat of abuse is limited by the fact that the common interest is music.
