Mywaves has launched “auto channels”, a new way for users to personalize mobile viewing. The auto channels work in the same way as online search and user specify search queries or phrases. The search then scours the Web to find and deliver relevant videos to mobile phone users for free and instantly.

Users can then automatically view relevant videos from the search and saved searches mean that SMS is sent to users when new content is available.
In six weeks from launch, mywaves boasts 300,000 users in 90 countries and is averaging 40,000 sign-ups a week.

From the press release:
“We believe the tremendous momentum behind mywaves is due to the simple
fact that consumers love to choose from a vast array of content and they
can personalize their own channels and watch what they want to watch,
wherever they are,” said Rajeev Raman founder and CEO mywaves. “The
addition of Auto Channels further enhances the users experience because now
mywaves does all the work of content discovery on users’ behalf.”

What we think.
It sounds good. But will the users keep coming back once they get their mobile data bills? Streaming video can be extremely expensive and new business models need to be thought of to consider lowering streaming costs for users.
