GunBroker.com claims to be the largest online site for guns and accessories auctions in the world. And now it’s looking to become the largest mobile site. It has launched http://m.gunbroker.com, which allows users to buy and sell firearms over their mobiles.
According to Hitwise, the only auction sites bigger than GunBroker in the US are both eBay sites. It’s got over 1 million registered users, with around 300,000 auctions every day. So that’s a not-insignificant audience to try to draw onto the mobile Web.
From the release:
“We live in a mobile society where cell phones and PDAs have become predominant, so it made sense to offer a site especially for the convenience of the many people who are interfacing with GunBroker.com on small screens while they’re going about their lives,” said Steve Urvan, GunBroker.com CEO.
What we think?
I’m not usually inclined to cover the launch of every little mobile site that comes along. In this case, I’m willing to make an exception. It’s not JUST that it tickles me to see firearms available through your mobile phone. It’s also that there seems to be no area of sales where entry into the mobile space doesn’t see like a good idea to someone. For merchants, the mobile channel is more and more a reliable sales source – and that’s good news for everyone involved in the mobile space.
