NeoMedia – what is going on?
So, last week I got the impression that CEO Chip Hoffman was on the way out of NeoMedia – but asked “not to mention it”. Then yesterday, I am promised an exclusive – didn’t get one. Then today I read Brewskih’s comments and then see on the Neom site that indeed Chip Hoffman (who I had a lot of time for, as I did Chas Fritz- before him) has been kicked out.
I just want to say that I got an email from Chip a few months ago. It was very long and passionate about the Mobile Barcode business and NeoMedia. I wish I could publish it as I think that it would show that he was extremely passionate about the mobile barcode business.
But anyway the new man is Iain McCready.
So what can he do that everyone else has failed in? I have to say failed because NeoMedia should be bigger and stronger than it is- something is going wrong. Even the codes standard initiative has been eclipsed by the OMA and French barcode associations.
I am trying to count the big wins for NeoMedia last year. I can count 5. If I have missed some let me know. But this 5 from Neom vs Scanbuy (boasting 10) is shocking.
But anyway back to Iain McCready. At least he has vast barcode experience.
He says:
Iain McCready said, “Having already worked with Neomedia, I am looking forward to taking the reins and being operational from day one. At the forefront of a rapidly growing sector, the company’s innovative products, exciting solutions and its intellectual property for the mobile market in particular offer impressive potential. I look forward to contributing to its future success.”
Is a new CEO enough?
I hope so. But I feel that NeoMedia is under attack and I read recently the plights of shareholders having lost huge $$$. A turnaround needs to be fast. But Gavitec in Germany needs to also raise the bar. More than a CEO there needs to be a strong global European salesforce.
NeoMedia needs sales, fact.

People always said that they were a “pump and dump” company from day 1. I guess they may have been right.
