NeoMedia adds new recruit for core products

Rating: Hires Mark Lanphear hot on heels of Microsoft coup

Hot on the heels of its announcement that the company had landed Microsoft as a licensee (and how many others will now follow suite?), NeoMedia Technologies, has gone on the head hunt. It has just snaffled Mark Lanphear as its new vp for sales in North America. “To be joining an industry stalwart like NeoMedia at such a positive time for QR codes is very exciting for me,” Mark Lanphear commented. “NeoMedia is a company focused on innovation and I look forward to helping drive NeoMedia’s continued success,” he added.
Lanphear will have responsibility for sales and business development of NeoMedia’s two core products: – NeoReader and NeoSphere.

“Mark has extensive knowledge of the North American mobile market and expertise with international brands.”

“We look forward to benefiting from his wealth of sales knowledge and insight to drive revenue significantly in the region,” observed Laura Marriott, CEO of NeoMedia.

Bizarrely, one GoMobile News reader wanted to know if you are related to the Marriott who founded the international hotel chain, Laura!

Anyway, Mark is no newcomer to the wireless telecom industry having worked in it for two decades.

Lanphear was previously vp of global sales and general manager of ZOMM in Boulder, Colorado. He was also the founder of 2nd Jetty Partners.

Prior to ZOMM he held various sales management roles at companies including: – Zvelo; Vocel; Openwave; Wavemarket; and SignalSoft Corporation.

Mark Lanphear has his work cut out, because Neomedia is never going to be a viable business from selling NeoReader and NeoSphere…there is too much cut-throat competition from online providers. The only way forward for Neomedia is to demand users of its patented IP take out licenses, or face litigation. Neomedia must work with Global IP Law Group to robustly enforce its patented IP.

Rogerro – The reason why Neomedia failed to monetize the ‘indirect method’ was because of their litigation and closed mindedness in the early days of 2D barcodes. Do you think YA Global is going to let the only asset they have backing their loans get invalidated or narrowed to the point its unenforceable? Do you think that if Neomedia cannot turn this into a viable business that other companies are able to with their technology? Do you think this is the only content discovery method or will customers simply switch to alternatives? Haven’t their customers already moved from indirect method to the direct method forcing Neomedia to use a technological approach outside of their patents?

You are wrong. Their best bet is to wait until the industry moves to image recognition, help create a standard and open their platform to this as a standard essential patent.
