I love innovation and I love mobile barcodes. I got a nice email from the Co-founder of QRe8 and he created two mobile barcodes for GoMo News.

What is the QRe8 idea?
OK. It’s not new and it’s not rocket science. Its 2D barcode marketing with tracking and analytics.

So, not new then?
Well. No, agencies like this are springing up all over. But just because it isn’t new – it doesn’t mean that it isn’t good.

I like the brand marketing on the 2D barcode. I like the choice or option of 3D.

qre8com2I have to say, I see the intelligence of the name QRe8 – but we delve into the realm where users think all 2D or mobile barcodes are QR codes etc.

Anyway, only one of the pictures worked for me on my NeoReader when I tested it. But that might be because I took the image straight from the PC. But I do like the website and the branding. The brand is vital.

Be interesting to know the readers these companies are using - have they developed their own or are they using the systems developed by the likes of NeoMedia, UpCode, Scanbuy and or 3G Vision? An important question as these companies have spent millions in the development of the readers and, as GoMo readers will be aware, there are many important issues to be aware of in reader capabilities under various conditions + the need for intercompatibility - i.e. you don’t want 4 or 5 different applications downloaded all or any of which may not read the QR codes the same way.

For example - Only ‘one of the pictures’ worked for you because….

    Hi Mark,

Thank you for your question. QRe8.com is not involved in the Code Reader business. We are a QR Code and Datamatrix marketing agency that provides our clients with strategy, code creation, campaign management, campaign data/analytics and creative services.

We do test all of our codes on a variety of phones but focus primarily on Blackberries, iPhones and Android based phones. We are fairly confident that these phones will have over 50% - 60% share of the market by 2011 if not more.

We also test our codes on a variety of readers such as those you mention above. In fact, the 2 Gomo News codes in Bena’s post work perfectly through the UpCode reader. Even off a computer screen (which has a slightly lower scan rate than print) your reader and our codes work perfectly together.

Please take a look at our codes in action on Youtube - http://www.youtube.com/user/QRCodes

    Sincerely,
