New mobile site creator Suvvo launches free mobilizing service - for a small cut, that is
Suvvo.com has launched a new mobilizer for on-line websites. The content management service is geared towards taking any website and converting it into a mobile site, browseable from any web-enabled phone. The service is specifically designed so that people with absolutely no programming knowledge can create or convert mobile websites - and for individuals and small businesses, it’s free.
Well… it’s not ENTIRELY free. Suvvo wants you to be able to sell content and generate ad revenue on your mobile site as quickly as possible. Because while Suvvo doesn’t charge a penny for setting up mobile sites for small fish, it does take a slice of revenue from all of your ad and content earnings. So the Suvvo Content Adaptation Platform (SCAP) will allow anyone, even those with absolutely no web savvy, to create operational mobile websites. It’s even got a full mobile billing service built in, so you can immediately start selling content globally.
For larger partners, who have what they call “premium requirements”, like dedicated bandwidth and hostings, Suvvo offers a managed hosting solution - for which they do charge.
What we think?
The actual service here really isn’t anything new. Mobify.me and dotMobi are amongst many service offering simple, on-the-fly transcoding. With mobile Internet connections speeds increasing, and data costs decreasing, it’s a lot easier to get a mobile-enabled web site these days. The problem is whether or not it’s worth it from a money point of view. There are still problems inherent with automatic content transcoding. Automating the process leads to errors, which reflect badly on the site owner. That’s why I like the Suvvo business plan. Since Suvvo has tied its profits in with it’s clients profits, it’s in Suvvo’s best interests that it’s clients do as well as possible.
