New partners brings Yowza!! mobile coupons to 15,000 locations

couponWhen we checked in with mobile coupon service Yowza!! last month, it was reporting that over 200 retailers were offering coupons through its mobile application. Now it claims that number has risen to over 250, with a combined retail location force of over 15,000. Who are the newest additions that Yowza!! is most excited about? FastFrame and Croc.

What’s a “Yowza!!”?

It’s an LBS based application – when you open it, it searches for any stores in your vicinity that have mobile coupons available. You can then download those coupons to your phone, and head over to the store to use them (yes, it gives directions). Now, Yowza!! is no aggregator of coupons. It doesn’t just collect coupons from all over, it only hosts specifically created coupons from retailers that have a partnership deal with it. The theory is that those 250 retail partners are offering coupons over Yowza!! that you just can’t get anywhere else.

It’s a free to download application for iPhones and iPod Touches. There’s an LBS service called Where that allows you to download it for BlackBerry, Android, and Palm as well.

What’s the story?

FastFrame is a picture framing company in the states, and Crocs… well, you probably know what Crocs are. Between them, they’ve added over 400 new retail locations to the Yowza!! database.

There are bunch of new, smaller partnerships as well, including Ben Bridge Jewelers, Daphne’s Greek Cafe restaurants and Road Runner Sports retailers.

Greg Grunberg, co-creator of Yowza!! (as well as being a television and film writer/producer/actor and star of Heroes) said “these new partners join a group of retailers, restaurants and other local and national merchants – ranging from Pier 1 and Sears to REI and Toys R’ Us – who are pioneers in our quest to convert the world to green mobile coupons by putting easy-to-use savings directly in their pockets. Depending on the category and specific offer, between 10 and 40 percent of consumers who view a Yowza!! coupon have gone on to redeem it – a rate exponentially higher than with paper coupons.”

What we think?

It interests me that Yowza!! are playing up the “green” aspect of mobile coupons at the moment – I’m guessing it’s because it’s Earth Week, and ecological friendliness is “hot” right now. To be fair, mobile couponing actually is fairly green, as it cut outs an awful lot of paper processing and printing.
