Rating: All in the latest version of its Symbian client
Nimbuzz is claiming a world first for Symbian handsets – full Twitter functionality and pop-up notifications. That’s thanks to its just launched Symbian 2.2 client. GoMo News downloaded it and it definitely works.
For those who don’t know, Nimbuzz is a social network which has over 13 million registrations and enjoys a growth rate of over a million new registrations every month. It’s also available in 220 countries.
The Twitter client includes Timelines, Direct Messaging, Searches, Trends and Profiles. Nimbuzz claims it outperforms standalone Twitter applications.
The best bit for Symbian handset fans is the fact that pop-up notifications (telling the user that there are incoming chats or events) work even if the application is running in the background.
Further additions to the latest Symbian client include kinetic scrolling (for 5th edition touch screen phones); new chat screen and contact list layout; chat history; plus a direct link to the NimbuzzOut rate calculator for international calls.
Better still, the client is free and can be downloaded directly from www.nimbuzz.com or via Nokia’s Ovi Store.
“We are delighted to announce the integration of Twitter with our new Symbian client,” commented Evert-Jaap Lugt, Nimbuzz’ founder.
“Nimbuzz for Symbian is by far our most sophisticated client and the only product available to offer users such a comprehensive range of features and such a complete communications experience on one.”
Besides Twitter, the Nimbuzz client offers VoIP calls; Instant Messaging (IM) plus presence, profiles and location. It also enables file-sharing with other popular social networks as well as connecting with Skype.
