Nokia brings mobile email to operator M1
Nokia today announced that it has signed a mobile email deal with Singapore operator M1. The push email service will allow M1 customers on 20 different Nokia handsets to receive email straight to their device from the most popular webmail clients.
In order to attract customers to the new email option, M1 is grabbing the opportunity to flash its mobile data charges again.
Those three prices translate to roughly €2.60, €5.20 and €7.90 respectively.
From the release:
“Almost everyone has a mobile handset and an email account these days, making Nokia Messaging an excellent way to access email on the go. By turning this application into a very affordable value-added service that is available on a wide range of Nokia handsets, we are confident that it will meet the needs of the many M1 customers who want to keep in constant email contact without incurring high mobile data charges,” said P Subramaniam, M1’s Chief Marketing Officer.
“With this service, Nokia and M1 aim to respond to the growing consumer demand to be able to access their email accounts directly on the Nokia device whenever they want, wherever they want. Nokia Messaging eliminates all the factors that have been barriers to mobile email adoption: it is easy to access and set up, it is easy to use and one can have up to 10 email accounts per device per subscriber. The idea is to make mobile email and messaging available to everyone,” said Vlasta Berka, General Manager, Nokia Singapore, Malaysia & Brunei.
What we think?
Mobile email is a serious growth area for the mobile market. Recent developments have seen big players scrabbling to make sure it’s available to consumers. What’s more, mobile email is being used to integrate with other populer mobile services, like social networking and photo sharing. And with other big deals this year, like Aprils announcement with Orange, Nokia is looking more like a leader in mobile email.
