Nokia Point&Find
Rating: click click

Nokia is a mobile manufacturer with a lot of aims. It aims to be a leader in multi-media, a leader in mobile search a leader in mobile advertising and now… a leader in visual search.
It’s a novel idea – but there are already other companies in this area that are already successful. Indeed, Nokia purchased Pixto and its new aim is heavily aligned to this purchase. The services being pushed will be called Point&Find and the aim will be to enable people to click on physical objects (CD covers or images) to find and locate content.

GoMo News’ parent BKI Media is currently writing analysis on the visual search space and the major players are: Daem Interactive, Evryx, DSPV, Craze Digital, Mobile Acuity, Google (Neven Vision), Microsoft (Lincoln)… (let us know if we have missed you).
What we think?
Visual search has huge potential in the mobile environment. In the past we have interviewed both Craze Digital and DSPV innovative visual search players that have also managed to launch exciting services in Europe (see Mobile Search Analyst article on Sky). I spoke briefly on this with DSPV’s Tsvi Lev and he raised some interesting points. He said that there was already a leadership contest in place for visual mobile search and the leader would have a solution that would work on every mobile phone and not merely a few. This is an important point as all of Nokia’s new services are stung by the fact they usually only work on one or two devices.
