Nokia - round table with Bill Plummer, Head of Nokia Americas go to market.
Following up from Tuesday’s series of announcements by Nokia a few of us were invited to a round table event with Bill Plummer who was joined by Mark Squires and Ray Haddow, both from Nokia.
This was a really interesting session and it felt like that Nokia was listening. I was joined in the room by Phil Wolff, Alan Reiter, Dave Weinstein and Jeb from Brilliantexpos. Bill was eloquent and passionate about the way Nokia is developing and unlike so many other companies who claim to be the best, Nokia are stressing the point that this is like a house. They have built the foundations and now they are adding conservatories and making new expansions. This is a welcome development I believe from Nokia. The front facing people from Nokia have always listened but I think this is a major cultural change at corporate level.
The new Ovi file sharing was one example of Bill’s passion. You could tell he was really excited at this development by Nokia. Essentially once you are signed upto Ovi you can email a link to a friend of a certain specific piece of content from your Nokia Share file. So, you could email a picture to a friend and without them having an Ovi account or any specific software on their desktop they can view it. Not only that but if you are using a mobile device you can see an optimised version on the handset, now that is cool!. I can see this being extremely useful for professionals on the go. I should be trialling this soon and will come back with a full report.
I shot a lot of video of Bill during the round table and next week I will upload the highlights, so you can all see for your self, how Nokia are listening. Everyone present thought this was a really positive event and hopefully we will see more of these.
