False alarm – we thought it was a new model
It’s called kipping [sleeping] on the job. Here at GoMo Towers we thought that Nokia had suddenly added another new handset to its Lumia range. Then we suddenly realised the company was simply announcing the UK availability of the Nokia Lumia 1520 phablet. From Friday 6th December 2013. Ho-Hum. Anyway, this is Nokia’s first smartphone with a 6 inch high definition display. At least Nokia gives us some idea of the pricing. The Nokia Lumia 1520 will be available to purchase by UK consumers on contract from approximately £38 per month from O2 retail, Vodafone on-line, Carphone Warehouse, Phones4u and independent retailers via Micro-P. At least it will be out in time for the Xmas present buying rush. BlackBerry take note.
This Lumia obviously isn’t going to compete against the truly amazing Nokia Lumia 1020 which the company announced back in July with a 41 megapixel camera.
When the 15520 was announced last month [October 3013], its full specifications weren’t known.
Now GoMo News is actually able to publish those tech specs here.
The salient points are …
- A 1080 pixel HD screen
- A 20 megapixel camera which not only enables users to capture images; but edit with Refocus and document the files using Nokia Storyteller
- A 2.2 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad core processor
- 7GB of SkyDrive – free and secure cloud storage to access media files anywhere
- Plus there’s an additional third ‘live tiles’ column so users can access even more of their favourite apps from the Home screen
The most important features about this new device is that it does actually support NFC (unlike Apple) and the Wi-fi is up to the really top specifications of 802.11 ac (see here).
We’ve reproduced the full tech specs for the 1520 here.
