Rating: Nokia goes to new lengths to promote WP7
In its latest marketing stunt, Nokia has launched a group of bloggers along the grand canyon, via a zip line, while simultaneously taking photos and doing all things social.
The event was in aid of the Lumia 710, one of Nokia’s new range of WP7 based devices. Despite disappointing financial losses of over €900m in Q4 2011, the firm has managed to sell over a million of its new WP7 devices, exceeding expectations.
Nokia invited a group of online community members to publically trial the new phone. They claim it demonstrated “just how quickly the Nokia Lumia 710 lets them ‘keep social’ with their friends”.
Here’s a clip of the antics:
The zip line concept, and an accompanying helicopter ride over the Grand Canyon, was devised by the Nokia Connects team in collaboration with word of mouth agency 1000heads, as a way to involve community members in the launch of a new device.
Tom Messett, Global Editor in Chief – Social Media, Nokia said:
“We’re confident in our Lumia devices and confident in our fans and community, so with the Zip-Line we brought the two together. We’re really proud of the way the device performs intuitively and flawlessly in this situation – it shows how fast and how easy to use our new Lumia phones really are!”
We’ve also heard on the grapevine that Nokia Connects is planning another community event at the Mobile World Conference in Barcelona – watch this space.
