Nokia announced today that SNAP Mobile Games will be available to consumers in Germany in the fall of 2007. SNAP or to give it its full title - Scalable Network Application Package is a gaming solution for the development and publishing of Java(TM) MIDP 2.0 games to compliant phones.

In the Press Release:
"SNAP Mobile’s flagship games of Pocket Party titles including JellyPop
and Sudoku, which are already available in Asia Pacific and North
America" according to the Press Release. They continue that "SNAP Mobile games will come pre-installed on selected Nokia handsets,
such as the popular Nokia N73, Nokia N95 and Nokia 6300 in Germany. Consumers will be able to demo the games for free and decide whether or
not to buy the full versions. Users only need to click the ‘buy’ link
after reviewing the purchase details and then they receive a text
message with a link to download the full version of the game."

What we think:
I have never used SNAP but I have developed J2ME games and applications for handsets including Nokia. One of the things that would be really helpful to application development in general on Nokia handsets would be if they kept the same implementation of technology across their series range, the same API’s for Bluetooth in Series 60 for example would be beneficial.  It is getting better but until you have a released device in your hands you are never sure what the actual spec will be or how the implementation will work.
