Nuance buys BeVocal Inc

Rating: Nuance to target the mobile subscriber eco-system

Nuance Comomunications Inc. has agreed to acquire BeVocal Inc. for USD 140 million.

Who is BeVocal?
BeVocal is a provider of voice activated mobile phone customer care services. It was founded n 1999 and had raised USD 80 million in VC funding from Technology Crossover Ventures, Mayfield Fund, US Venture Partners and ArrowPath Venture Partners.

BeVocal existing customers
BeVocal’s customer base includes Virgin Mobile and Cingular Wireless. BeVocal provides handset activation and voice customer care features to these operators.

Why did Nuance buy BeVocal?
Nuance is a technology company and BeVocal is more a services or value added features company. This purchase will allow Nuance to enter into a new market space and to start providing complete mobile voice solutions to mobile operators including customer care.
