Rating: Scandalous! truly…

The folks over at Mobile Entertainment have a piece based on research from GetJar which claims that 35% of mobile games don’t work.

Ilja Laurs, CEO of GetJar, said: “This is an important challenge for the mobile entertainment industry, for developers and for the operators who supply the vast majority of games in the UK.”

GetJar claims that insufficient testing is to blame for the high failure rate and says the problem will get bigger “unless developers place greater emphasis on compatibility”. It’s a scary thought that so may games don’t work and one which apparently costs the UK consumer £29 million.

We say: This is shockingly bad. I started developing mobile games about 5 years ago, and yes there were many less handsets on the market then but this is frankly scandalous and makes a mockery of the J2ME certification and testing that all applications should go through before being allowed to be downloaded by the consumer. The industry needs to get its finger and out and test, test, test..
