Rating: Good reasons to download, Part III
To mark the fact that it has released the final versions of its Opera Mini 5 and Opera Mobile 10 mobile web browsers, Opera has come up with five good reasons why consumers should download and install its leading alternative mobile browsers.
Reason Number One is that not only is it easy and free to download one of the two browsers, but they can deliver a full Web-like experience on virtually any mobile phone.
Reason Number Two is speed. Opera mobile browsers are designed to boost browsing speed significantly and put an end to slow surfing.
Reason Number Three is cost savings. The Opera Mini’s compression technology reduces the amount of data sent to a mobile phone by up to 90 per cent, the company claims, thereby lowering costs on pay-per-MB data plans or when data roaming.

Reason Number Four is consistency. Opera deliberately retains its user interface and the same great feature set – such as speed dial, tabs, and the password manager.
Consequently, you can swap between different handset brands – say Nokia over to Android – and still have the same mobile browser experience. Which is a bonus.
Reason Number Five is synchronisation. The browser lets users synchronise their bookmarks, notes and speed dial with a desktop computer. This make the same information available at work, at home or on the road. And if you lose your phone, you don’t lose your data.
“Today, we have made it even easier for everyone to surf, search and socialise on the Web,” Lars Boilesen, CEO with Opera Software believes. With 50 million plus users, the company is obviously doing something right.
While Opera Mobile 10 is fully available on Windows Mobile and Symbian S60-based mobile phones, while Opera Mini 5 is fully available on all Java-based and Blackberry phones but only beta still on Android and Windows Mobile phones.
To obtain an Opera browser, point the handset’s existing browser at http:// m.opera.com or go to http://www.opera.com/mobile to side load it.
Oh, and just to ensure it gets sufficient publicity, Opera has also released a preview of its Mini 5 browser for the iPhone. Surely that makes it a Gamma version?
