Rating: I am so bored of the longtail argument

Music and social networking have nothing to do with the long tail. They have more to do with the “now tail” of social integration and enjoyment via mobile.

David Nahmani from Orange talked at length about two products Pikeo and Sound Tribes which are being developed. Pikeo has a visionary roadmap and the integration of Microsoft Maps will ensure a Flickr style operator branded services with one click blogging.

Sound Tribes is hush hush – but sexier than I originally anticipated; until David dropped in a “long tail” slide.
For social networking to succeed; mobile operators have to get dirty with consumers and forget issues relating to demand and finding content. The whole point of user generated content and music is to find the hottest, latest and most titillating experience and to consume it “NOW”.

Basically, Orange is moving in the right direction – but it’s not quite there yet.
