It’s a funny thing about Palm – they occupy the same space this year that Motorola did around the time of MWC last year. As in, mostly everybody you ask thinks the company is now kind of irrelevant. But a year of blazing announcements, changes in philosophy and incredible phones has pulled Motorola back into the limelight. So what wonders does Palm have lined up?
Some free games.
Oh. Really?
Well, it’s part of a launch for paid apps…
To be fair, Palm has had quite a bit of news recently. Version 1.4 of its operating system is being launched in Europe, as well as the recently announced addition of paid apps to the Palm store for the UK. As part of this paid app launch, EA Mobile is offering three of its premium 3D games for free on the store for the month of March: Need For Speed Undercover, The Sims 3 and Monopoly.
What we think?
It’s very easy to be scathing about a launch like this. EA Mobile is one of the biggest players in mobile gaming – it’s certainly one of the biggest companies that really takes mobile gaming seriously. It’s good that Palm and EA are joining forces to really cater to the growing mobile gaming crowd. But honestly, Palm is going to have to do a hell of a lot more than this to become a real player again.
